Since 1997, Kum & Go has been a leader in distributing biofuel to customers. We offer biofuel alternatives in a number of our 430 stores, throughout 12 states as part of our commitment to the environment.
Biofuel alternatives are important because they are better for our environment and that's something we can all appreciate. The fuel alternatives are also important because customers have expressed a demand for the product. More and more Americans are becoming aware of the reasons why they should choose ethanol-enriched gasoline. Across the country, 57 percent of consumers feel that it is important to use ethanol as an additive to ease the country's dependence on foreign oil, according to a study by the Ethanol Promotion and Information Council.
E85
Since 1997, Kum & Go has been offering E85 fuel. E85 is a fuel mixture of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline and is a renewable fuel source that reduces harmful environmental emissions and provides multiple economic benefits. As a cutting-edge innovator in the delivery of alternative fuel choices, Kum & Go’s total reduction of fossil fuel dependency was 14.5 million gallons from ethanol alone last year. Kum & Go is the largest E85 retailer in the state of Iowa. We also offer E85 in seven other states - Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota, Colorado, Nebraska and Oklahoma. We continue to explore the options of offering alternative fuel solutions in our other states of operation as well.
Only Flex Fuel Vehicles (FFV) can run on E85.
BIODIESEL
Biodiesel is the name of a clean burning alternative fuel, produced from domestic, renewable resources. Biodiesel contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with petroleum diesel to create a biodiesel blend. It can be used in compression-ignition (diesel) engines with little or no modifications. Biodiesel is simple to use, biodegradable, nontoxic, and essentially free of sulfur and aromatics.
10% ETHANOL BLEND
Kum & Go was also one of the first convenient store chains in the nation to offer a 10% ethanol blend. E-10, a no-lead gasoline, accounted for nearly 40% of our total gallons sold in 2005. It was introduced in the Springfield, Mo., and Tulsa, Okla., markets in late 2007.
LEED® - Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
In December, 2009, Kum & Go became the first convenience store in Iowa to receive LEED certifications for two stores. Click on the link below to read more about this distinction.
