(West Des Moines, Iowa — January 22, 2009) Kum & Go, L.C., one of the nation’s leading convenience store chains, is proud to announce that Craig A. Bergstrom, Kum & Go CFO, is the 2009 recipient of the Prairie Meadows CFO of the Year Award presented annually at the Des Moines Business Record Economic Forecast event. The awards recognize Central Iowa CFOs who have played a critical role in the success of their companies through growth and profitability.

"I'm honored to receive this award," says Kum & Go CFO Craig Bergstrom. “But I share it with my finance team who are as good as any I’ve worked with. Together, I believe we've made some significant and lasting impacts on the organization. My focus moving forward is to continue to drive value and set Kum & Go on a path to long-term success.”

A Kum & Go associate since 2005, Mr. Bergstrom has transitioned the company’s financial structure to support significant organic growth from new store builds rather than from acquisitions.
From the many deserving nominees, the selection committee was most impressed with Craig Bergstrom's specific accomplishments for Kum & Go during his tenure as CFO,” said Janette Larkin, Publisher, Business Publications, Business Record Des Moines. “From developing a syndicated banking agreement to launching an aggressive divesture program, along with numerous other operating efficiencies, it was clear the steps taken under his financial operations leadership contributed significantly to the company's growth and profitability."

Mr. Bergstrom was nominated for the award by the President and CEO of Kum & Go, Kyle J. Krause, for his successful implementation of a series of initiatives aimed at improving Kum & Go’s financial strength. Mr. Bergstrom’s impact has been felt throughout the company.

"Craig has been a valuable benefit to Kum & Go. In addition to his business skills, Craig’s character is what makes him such an asset to our leadership team," said Kyle J. Krause, CEO of Kum & Go. "He sets an example that trickles down through our organization by showing his genuine interest in others, giving liberally of his own time and resources and expecting no more from others than he does himself. This award is well-deserved recognition for his great work and noteworthy achievements."

Before coming to Kum & Go, Mr. Bergstrom, a 26-year veteran, served as the President and Chief Executive Officer for Chef Solutions Inc. He is a graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Accounting.

Kum & Go Opens Second Anticipated LEEDŽ Convenience Store in Iowa

http://www.kumandgo.com/news.cfm?action=article&id=51e655f2-4365-45f3-901e-0283574cdcd2

(West Des Moines, Iowa — December 24, 2008) On Tuesday, December 23, Kum & Go, L.C., opened the second anticipated Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) convenience store in Iowa. The 3,400-square-foot store, with an adjacent 1,700-square-foot tenant space available for lease, took only 92 days to construct and is located at I-235 and Guthrie Avenue in Des Moines, Iowa.

“We’re excited to offer our second LEED store to the residents of Iowa,” said Kyle Krause, Kum & Go president and CEO. “We have a long history with businesses and patrons within the community and hope to continue that partnership. We appreciate the business Iowa has given us for almost 50 years, and we will continue to provide superior service in environmentally friendly buildings.”

Kum & Go has filed for registration with the U.S. Green Building Council and expects to obtain LEED certification within six months. The Council will rate the store on a number of categories, including water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality and innovation and design.

The new store features 20fueling stations, offering unleaded, super unleaded, premium, diesel and E85 fuels. E85 is an alternative motor fuel mixture of about 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. It is an environmentally friendly fuel that can only be used in flex-fuel vehicles with engines modified to accept higher concentrations of ethanol. Kum & Go has offered E85 since 1997 and currently offers E85 at 39 of its stores located across nine states.

As part of Kum & Go’s commitment to developing environmentally friendly building and operating practices, the majority of new stores are constructed using local building materials, and are equipped with heavily insulated glass, LED cooler door lights, sun reflecting roofs and energy-efficient heating/air conditioning and refrigeration systems. Additional measures for LEED® certification include providing alternative transportation options such as electronic vehicle charging and carpool/van parking, construction waste management, 30% water use reduction and use of materials that do not emit solvent vapors and other harmful chemicals into the store environment.

Once certified, Kum & Go would be the only convenience retailer in the Midwest with LEED certification. While the company expects for some additional up-front costs in materials, and the construction and LEED registration processes, Krause believes the investment will quickly be returned with reduced utility and water consumption.

Kum & Go Opens First Anticipated LEEDŽ Convenience Store in Midwest

http://www.kumandgo.com/news.cfm?action=article&id=2c91a49f-6dad-458e-b4bc-591bffda83f9

(West Des Moines, Iowa — November 18, 2008) On Monday, November 24, Kum & Go, L.C., will conduct a public ribbon cutting ceremony for the first anticipated Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) convenience store in the Midwest. In addition, the store will commemorate being the 100th E85 location in Iowa. To celebrate with the public, Kum & Go will be offering E85 for a dollar a gallon from 11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The ribbon cutting, which begins at 1:30 p.m., will include speakers Kyle J. Krause, Kum & Go president and CEO; Bill Northey, Iowa Secretary of Agriculture; and Paula Dierenfeld, Mayor of Johnston. The new Kum & Go store is located at 5800 Northglenn Drive, Johnston, IA.

"We are strongly convinced that LEED certification is the next logical step for Kum & Go," says Kyle J. Krause, Kum & Go president and CEO. "Kum & Go was a pioneer in introducing E85 fuel to the marketplace. We also strive to maintain our leadership in the industry to grow our company while always benefitting our customers. As the first to open a proposed LEED certified store, this demonstrates our interest in increasingly adopting environmentally responsible practices for our customers, our business, our local community and the environment, and it encourages others to become more environmentally conscious."

Kum & Go has filed for registration with the U.S. Green Building Council and expects to obtain LEED certification within six months. The Council will rate the store on a number of categories, including water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality and innovation and design. Once certified, Kum & Go would be the only convenience retailer in the Midwest with a LEED certification.

The Kum & Go store at 5800 Northglenn Drive in Johnston is the company’s first LEED store and will serve as the pilot for future LEED builds.
