Biographies
W.A. Krause
W.A. Krause’s roots are in Iowa. Originally from Eldora, Iowa, he attended the University of Iowa and majored in journalism. In the late 1950s, Mr. Krause entered into a small business partnership with his father-in-law, Tony Gentle. The two entrepreneurs were pioneers in the convenience store concept. Today, Krause owns more than 430 Kum & Go convenience stores in 11 states (Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Colorado, Arkansas and Wyoming). Kum & Go’s 3,600 associates serve more than one-quarter-of-a- million customers every day. Kum & Go is Iowa’s largest privately-held and the United State’s 20th largest convenience store chain.
Mr. Krause’s professional career is dynamic with the core business of convenience stores. In 2005, the industry’s leading publication, Convenience Store People, named Krause one of the Top Ten most Influential CEOs. However, his jaw-dropping success stories do not stay within the confines of the convenience store industry. Krause is known for his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit, which has driven him into many other business ventures.
Krause’s financial prowess and strong management has made Liberty Bank the fastest growing bank in Iowa with over $1 billion in assets in the Iowa and Florida charter banks. In addition to his continual next adventurous enterprise, Krause serves on many philanthropic boards and give back to community organizations.
