Kum & Go takes innovative approach to sustainability efforts across its footprint

(Des Moines, Iowa) As part of its commitment to sustainability, starting this month, Kum & Go will be overhauling its food packaging, moving towards a host of environmentally-friendly and compostable products including salad bowls, lids, and cutlery made with renewable resources. Kum & Go is also planning to convert to a BPI certified straw and birch wood stir stick for coffee in the coming months.

“Supporting sustainability efforts is important throughout our business,” says Vice President of Food Service, Jeff Shamburger. “By switching our food packaging, we’re reducing waste and better presenting our premium products.”

This comes on the heels of Kum & Go’s newly announced partnerships with Clif Bar and Boxed Water – both of which are in support of reforestation efforts around the country – as well as a creative campaign with Dr Pepper providing silicone straws to &Rewards customers to celebrate Earth Day on April 22, 2020.

For the Clif Bar promotion, a portion of the purchase of any $1.99 bar in the month of March will go towards American Forests whose mission is to create healthy and resilient forests. Kum & Go is also continuing its successful partnership with Boxed Water’s Better for Our Planet campaign, which resulted in 8,000 trees planted in needy forests in 2019 – and aims for another 5,000 this year.
